Ōhi’a Lehua

Ohia Lehua is an endemic species of tree or shrub (depending on where it grows). Ohia Lehua thrives in higher climates with fresh clean air and rich soil. This plant is associated with the goddess Pele as many of these trees grow near the summit of her volcanoes and the Kilauea crater. It is easily recognized by its bright red flowers, a favorite of the native ‘I’iwi bird. tropical-flowers-1
